What is ANSI?

A U.S. standards organization that facilitates and governs the development of standards in many areas, including computing and communication.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) was founded as a private sector voluntary standards association in 1918 and is a nonprofit, private association with almost 1400 member organizations.

Standards that are approved by ANSI are called ANSI Standards. Examples include the ANSI C/C++ programming language standards, ANSI-89 SQL standards, and ANSI character set. There are over 13,000 standards that have been approved by ANSI to date.
