What is Web application?

Web application is a collection of elements on a Web site that performs a task programmatically. Web applications are designed to run on Web servers (such as Internet Information Services) and use Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer as the user interface. Web applications are typically client/server applications. For example, the ordering mechanism on an electronic commerce site is a Web application.
